Hannah Nydahl

In December of 1969, Hannah Nydahl and her husband Ole became the first Western students of the 16th Karmapa, the greatest meditation master of his time. At his request they then bgan to transmit Diamond Way teachings in Europe and both Americas. 

Hannah Nydahl, as a translator of Tibetan into English, Danish and German, worked with the highest Tibetan teachers of the Karma Kagyu school translating texts on Buddhist philosophy as well as all the meditation texts used in practice. She divided her time between travelling with her husband to the various Diamond Way meditation centers they established, and working with teachers and meditation centers in the East. She also gave lectures and courses on Buddhist philosophy and meditation. Her work included translating the lectures of lamas teaching at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI) in New Delhi (India), participating in numerous projects related to the translation of Buddhist texts, as well as planning the travel schedules of the highest Kagyu teachers.

Hannah Nydahl died in Copenhagen on 1 April 2007, after several months of serious illness.
